The latest Amazon Echo Show smart display is finally here, some four months after it was first announced at the Amazon 2020 event. Unlike all other Amazon smart displays, it can follow you around the room as you move, so the screen and camera are always in your field of vision, whether you’re tracking a recipe, making a video call, or watching Netflix.
The Echo Show 10‘s 13MP camera pans with the screen and also zooms automatically when you make a video call, so you’re always in the foreground and in the picture. The camera can also be used for home security as its live feed is available via the Alexa app any time you want to check on your home.
The Amazon Echo Show 10 has been available for pre-order in the US and UK since January, though it is still listed as “coming soon” in Australia.
The current Amazon Echo Show 10 is completely different in appearance from its predecessors. Measuring 9.9 x 9 x 6.7 inches (25.1 x 23 x 17.2 cm), the latest Echo Show combines the cylindrical shape of the Amazon Studio, although not as tall, with a 10-inch display attached to the front.
The rounder design also matches the aesthetic of the latest Amazon Echo and Amazon Echo Dot, and it has the same mesh fabric, available in either anthracite or white.
The round base of the Echo Show 10 houses two front-firing tweeters and a powerful woofer enclosed in a wrap-around grille, as well as a motor that allows the smart display to be rotated so that the 10-inch screen is always facing you. We found this particularly handy in the kitchen, as it means we can always keep an eye on the recipe we are preparing. There is a power socket at the bottom of the cylindrical speaker, because like other Echo Smart speakers and displays, it always needs to be plugged in.
